Hitchhiking

Walking down the side of the road,
Your car passes me by,
You notice my thumb out,
And slow down.

Jumping in the front seat,
You smile at me,
The smile one gives to old friends,
And I smile back.

We drive for awhile,
Chatting about philosophy,
And you laugh at my bad joke,
I laugh because of your laughter.

Then we reach your destination,
And you tell me this is as far as you go,
Hopping out of the car,
I’m hoping for another trip, someday.
